A simple scent

The New York Times writes on the film based on "The Scent", a novel about a young 18th-century Parisian blessed with a preternatural sense of smell. Unusual that it takes over 20 years for such a well known novel to hit the screen. Look forward to that one.

And writer Danny Stack has put together a list of companies who read unsolicited material, which I though belonged to history now. Maybe there is a catch. But I saw "A Simple Plan" last night on TV, for 2nd time, since 1998. Neatly structured script and a well made film, a film you want to see the first 10 minutes before you got to bed but end up watching it all. But still wonder, if they´d given any of the characters a darker side to deal with, it had then managed to become a great film instead of good. The wife-character, somewhat a typical movie wife, doesn't have a good reason to be unhappy with her job or life and when she urges her man to go ahead with the plan it feels as she is doing it to let the film-plot work. Women characters are often not as well crafted as the men characters which migth be the reason why many good films are not great.
