Had I been a US voter I had voted for Kerry but not Michael Moore.

The liberal campaign in US and the left wing campaign in number of European countries is sometimes kidnapped by the radical members of the parties. Or maybe they are not radical, maybe they are just loud. Filmmaker Michael Moore symbolises this notion, and he is not the only one.

The problem with Moore´s Farenheit-film as a piece of propaganda is that it is entertaining for those who agree with him already and family and so on but the tone of the film, the sarcastic editing and so and so, suggested a strong meaning which was not going to convince many who were undecided or say, believe in god. The film is a political masturbation.
The tone of it is saying, “he is stupid” (Bush), and "that guys is really dumb and I am smarter”. It also convinced many of Kerry´s supporters that Bush is just so stupid, as anyone can see, that he is not gonna get elected. So don’t worry. Big mistake(s). The real truth the film wanted to tell was perhaps not as important as the filmmakers great skill to edit a film?

The one who lives in fear of god can be a liberal, a left winger, but he needs to be approached as a person who values the good old fashioned faith if he is to vote for “you” and if he is to understand your message. He is not to be told how not so clever the other guy is, or should he?
Are all god loving people automatically right wingers? I don’t think so. But I think Michael Moore’s Farenheit-film only worked on one level. Perhaps the filmmaker forgot that no matter how silly your subject is, dont disrespect it, not too much, not that is shows, not too much.

A documentary I have seen over the past few months and works on many levels is Motorcycle Diaries, a beautiful, atmospheric film ... and yes, that BBC 2 film in three parts, The History of Nightmares. Just the right amount of sarcasm there, just enough to add a little entertainment to the show, but the rest of it was good old fashion politics, conspiracy theories cooked with smart editing of old news reel material and talking heads, complemented with Jazz. I had preferred Miles David for the music, he has got such subtle tracks, and the film could have carried his tones of genius.

And yes, by the way, Motorcycle Diaries ended up being a co-production between Hollywood based producers and Channel 4 in the UK, after (of course) a fight and struggle by "smaller" producers to get the go-ahead. Well done.
