Why go to a Film School

Elizabeth Van Ness writes something interesting in The New York Times about going to a film school, and suggests that students increasingly see film schools as places to learn general skills that can be applied in a range of jobs. This sort of broadening vision can help to make economic sense of film education, which in the past has often been a long path to "somewhere", or nowhere. "Most find their way, and the skills they learn from us are applicable to other careers and pursuits," says Dale Pollock of his students at the School of Filmmaking at the North Carolina School of the Arts, "So we're not wasting their time or money."
